Path of Exile 2's Soul Core of Puhuarte is no longer a generic Fire utility piece. After the 0.5.5 redesign, it became a specialized weapon choice for attack builds that already apply Ignite consistently. That distinction matters when planning upgrades, because spending Path of Exile 2 Currency on the wrong socket can produce less damage than improving ailment reliability first.

Why the 0.5.5 Rework Matters

When placed in a Martial Weapon, Puhuarte now grants 40% increased Ignite Magnitude. This improves the strength of the damage-over-time effect rather than making Ignite easier to apply.

Players should therefore treat it as a multiplier for an established plan, not as a solution for inconsistent ailment uptime. If attacks often fail to Ignite, the modifier remains inactive in practical terms.

The change is especially relevant for Fire conversion builds, elemental attack setups, and skills that deliver a large hit before the burning effect takes over. These characters can turn one strong application into meaningful sustained damage against rare enemies and bosses.

1) Fix Ignite reliability before investing in magnitude increases.

2) Compare weapon damage against ailment scaling before replacing a proven setup.

3) Reserve upgrade materials for weapons with useful Fire or elemental foundations.

4) Test boss damage in real encounters rather than trusting tooltip gains alone.

Who Should Use Puhuarte?

The best users are attack characters whose primary damage pattern combines a strong initial hit with dependable Fire ailment pressure. They benefit from both the weapon's base performance and the stronger damage that continues after the hit lands.

Pure physical builds gain little unless their conversion plan already supports Fire damage. Likewise, a fast attacking character focused entirely on direct hit damage may prefer a modifier that improves immediate impact instead of Ignite Magnitude.

Before committing, review the entire setup: Fire penetration, ailment duration, attack speed, critical investment, and the portion of damage coming from the burn. Puhuarte becomes more attractive as Ignite represents a larger share of total output.

Weapon Planning and Farming Priorities

Start with a Martial Weapon that has competitive attack speed and strong Fire or elemental scaling. A weak base can erase the benefit of the Soul Core, particularly during map clearing where direct hit damage still determines how quickly packs disappear.

For farming, prioritize routes that provide crafting materials and equipment bases rather than chasing the Soul Core immediately. A well-rolled weapon often improves the build more than an early socketed upgrade with poor supporting stats.

Once the base is ready, compare the cost of adding Puhuarte with alternative improvements such as attack speed, critical consistency, or Fire damage. Endgame progression is usually more efficient when each upgrade solves a specific weakness instead of stacking one attractive stat.

Acquire a strong weapon base before spending rare materials on final crafting.
Measure clear speed and boss damage separately when judging the upgrade.
Keep a defensive alternative available if the offensive socket creates resistance problems.

Gloves, Defense, and Endgame Choices

Puhuarte offers a different role in Gloves, where it provides 2% maximum Fire Resistance. This option can be valuable for Fire-focused characters entering difficult content, especially when the extra cap reduces incoming elemental damage across every encounter.

The defensive placement is not automatically inferior. A build with reliable Ignite but weak survivability may gain more practical value from additional Fire protection than from a moderate damage increase.

Use the weapon version when Ignite is a major damage engine and the character already meets defensive benchmarks. Choose Gloves when resistance management, boss mechanics, or limited recovery is the main obstacle to consistent endgame farming.

The most common mistake is copying a weapon setup before checking whether Ignite is dependable. Another is ignoring the initial hit, which can make mapping feel slow even when boss damage looks impressive. Treat Puhuarte as a focused tool: it rewards a complete Fire attack plan, careful resource allocation, and a clear decision between offense and defense. When preparing upgrades, compare its cost with other POE 2 Orbs and choose the option that improves your weakest stage of progression.
